The Texas Lone Star list is a recommended reading list developed by public and school librarians from
the Young Adult Round Table.
The purpose of the list is to encourage students in grades 6, 7, or 8 to explore a variety of current
books. The Lone Star list is intended for recreational reading, not to support a specific curriculum.
Students are challenged to read 5 Lone Star books throughout the year. After each book, they come
to the library and take a short 10 question quiz. For each book they read and pass the quiz, there
are prizes given.
1 book - pick something from prize box
2 books - free candy bar
3 books - free smoothie
4 books - free homework pass in English
5 books - free book at the spring book fair
